The R'n'R Nonno's Diary - The last day in Abruzzo

Another amazing record for the Rock'n'Roll Nonno!

Sunday
Last day in Abruzzo. I spent most of the day at the beach and then we went all for dinner near Andrea's house. We had a few dozens of delicious arrosticini (skewers typical of this area, probably one of the symbols of the Abruzzo's region). Andrea was pretty surprised by how many arrosticinins I had… The Rock'n'Roll nonno needs energy!
I spent a wonderful week in Abruzzo thanks to Stephano, Matteo, Andrea, Marco, Alessandra and their family and it was a pleasure to see them again after going to AC/DC shows all over the world, from Wilkes Barre to Sydney, from Tokyo to Bilbao...
The best part of the tour was making new friends and catching up with old ones; it is hard to describe to ‘ordinary’ people just what it is like travelling the world and seeing the same show all the time. They think you are a bit mad and do not understand. That is something a few of us have in common. It’s a kind of bond that will be there forever...

The R'n'R Nonno's Diary - The fourth day in Abruzzo

Francesco Totti

Sunday- the day of rest. 30 min run with Matteo along the beach. A stroll and swim in the Adriatic with Stephano before Pasta time. Tonight we are going to see Pescara play in a preseason friendly with Roma. (I must mention that the last time I saw Roma at Old Trafford it was 7-1). Andrea has lent me a Pescara scarf especially as he has to go to a wedding instead. I'ts nice to see that something must take preference over football. Not so sure if it had been AC/DC playing. Marco has just arrived from Milan and it's good to see him again after Bilbao. The Game was not that special but the Pescara and Roma fans very passionate in their support. After the game we went for midnight Pizza. (the following day I would hear that there were clashes between supporters outside the stadium... And it was a "friendly" match!")

The R'n'R Nonno's Diary - The third day in Abruzzo

Relaxing on the beach

Saturday dawns. "Sunshine". 30 minute run again. This time with Matteo. Not bad for a young boy! More walking along the beach and looking forward to more pasta at lunch. More beach walking and then to Andrea and Alessandra in Citta Sant'Angelo for a cultural visit to a medieval experience. at this small village in the countryside of Abruzzo named Elice. Along with Stephano and of course "Rosie", the puppy dog mascotte of AC/DC Abruzzo. Matteo couldn't come because of work… It was a very enjoyable night in a very beautiful part of the world.
On our way back to the car I suggested we could have an ice cream although Stephano and Andrea thought we should have some pasta first. So they made me taste this special fresh pasta typical of this village at around midnight!!

The R'n'R Nonno's Diary - The second day in Abruzzo

Friday morning and a 30 minute run along the seafront to proceed to another good stroll before more pasta variations at lunchtime.
Promises of another show at night with references to an artist that changed the history of music … CHUCK BERRY!
I was skeptical… Chuck Berry playing a show in Abruzzo? How could this be possible?
The the "Summer Jamboree" Festival really did exist and was headlined by the Man himself. I had seen Chuck Berry before, in about 1975 back home in England at the same venue where I saw AC/DC the first time.
No longer does he strutt his stuff like a younger man and no longer do the riffs come from his fingers, his voice remains the same but the words do not flow from his songs. But hey! We are in the presence of true greatness! A living Rock'n'Roll Legend that spawned the dreams and aspirations of some of rock's greatest stars: Lennon, Richards, Hendrix and our very own Young brothers, to name a few…
It was a great surprise and a pleasure to see him again. All thanks to AC/DC Abruzzo. Cheers!! I just hope nobody saw me with my umbrella again!
PS I think Matteo enjoyed the jive that was also part of the festival
